Come join the table of the ancients!
The world’s oldest culinary recipes are held in the Yale Babylonian collection. Nearly four millennia old clay tablets inscribed in cuneiform writing offer unique insights into early foodways, ingredients, and haute cuisine.
Students from the Yale College class NELC120, together with a team of ancient historians, a chef, and a food specialist will prepare and serve a feast following two of the Babylonian recipes – one vegan, the other with meat.
A brief introduction presents the research of an ongoing project behind the interpretation of these ancient recipes that combines approaches from the Humanities and the Natural Sciences to make the taste and smells of the deep past come alive.
This event will be limited to 44 participants.
